About Us

Over the years, Macon Magazine has evolved, coming to emphasize a wider range of local history, arts and cultural trends and events, government, homes, and real estate developments plus the people and places that make Central Georgia unique.

Since the first issue of Macon Magazine was published in 1986—its cover an illustration of the historic 1842 Inn by local artist, Sterling Everett —the title has defined itself as the region’s foremost and only reputable magazine.

Macon Magazine is an award-winning bi-monthly publication with more than 55,000 discriminating readers per issue, dedicating itself to a celebration of memorable imagery, great journalism, and the discovery of new talent.

Publisher, creative director, and editor Susannah Cox Maddux bought Macon Magazine in 2018 and is dedicated to continuing the magazine’s strong tradition of providing readers with useful, interesting stories about Macon and Central Georgia. Originally from Monroe, North Carolina, she and her family love calling Macon home for over 15 years. And, just as the magazine’s founders knew, she believes that our city is worth celebrating.

“Our stories connect us, further engage us with one another and our beloved Macon. From my days of circling up to gather around a story at family get-togethers to skipping school to tell ghost stories alongside my father at local schools in Monroe, North Carolina and traveling to the National Storytelling Festival every first weekend in October with my grandmother, Mama Cox, storytelling has been alive in me. Our stories build curiosity, connection, and empathy. I believe in the power of our stories. After all, empathy moves us to action. We’re all just waiting to be asked to tell ours. I hope that our shared stories help our readers move to action and, ultimately, fall more in love with Macon, one page at a time.”
