THIS FRIDAY, CELEBRATE
Macon’s vibrant Black History and the launch of our new Food and Flavors Issue
In partnership with Visit Macon, we’re launching a the Cotton Avenue Business District map in the February/March issue of Macon Magazine.
We’ll gather at Rabbit Hole, owned by Autumn Van Gunten and visionary American painter Cedric Smith, to raise a toast to and enjoy flavors featured in our February/March delivery, The Food and Flavors Issue. Smith is “addressing the American history that’s not taught in school textbooks” on his canvas. You’ll find his story on page 58.
At 4 p.m., we’ll follow our new illustrated Cotton Ave. Black Business District Map for a conversational walk to learn how the legacy of the street’s past leaders will guide our city’s bright future.
The walk will be conducted under the steady hands and voice of Alex Habersham, owner of the Macon-Middle Georgia Black pages and keeper of generational memories. He’s spotlighted in the Heroes Among Us feature on page 48.
Finally, we challenge you to join us as we continue on as a group and support Macon’s First Friday gallery walk. We’ll put a spotlight on the perspective of Black creatives, from Macon Magazine’s own DSTO Moore (among many of our pages) in “Black Man Smile” at Green Light Gallery, to visiting Afro-Caribbean figurative artist Kandy Lopez (page 109) with “Vaivén” at McEachern Art Center. We also salute ceramicist Wendy Kusmaul Keeling at Macon Arts Alliance, this issue’s Artist Spotlight on page 106, and the 10th anniversary of Gallery West, with owner Kirk West highlighted to ask about his most memorable Macon Meal on page 53.
When we come together, we can taste the depth of our flavor. A sampling of these tastes will be out in full force on Friday evening.
Join us in full or in part, as we travel through the complexity of Macon’s rich palate.
This is a complimentary event. Our partners make it possible. Contact hello@maconmagazine.com for more info. and to partner with Macon Magazine.
