WHAT IS THE MOST GRATIFYING PART OF YOUR JOB?
The most gratifying part of my job is that I get to contribute to the development of areas all over Georgia. Whether it is a new construction or renovation, it is very rewarding to see the community benefit from a project that we complete. It is also gratifying to be affiliated with so many different organizations around Macon as a Sheridan employee. I am actively involved with United Way, Historic Macon Foundation, Junior League of Macon, North Macon Rotary Club and Daybreak.

YOU MIGHT BE SURPRISED TO KNOW:Sheridan just opened a new office in LaGrange. We are happy to expand further into the West Georgia market.

WHAT IS A CHALLENGING ASPECT OF BEING A WOMAN IN YOUR FIELD?
The most challenging part of being a woman in the construction industry is that I am sometimes not taken seriously. I have met more than a handful of individuals who found it funny that I worked in construction and did not believe me. I am proud to be a female in the construction industry.

Looking back, I wish I had recognized: The opportunities that Macon holds. When I graduated from Mercer University, I accepted a job in Atlanta without first considering Macon. Looking back, I wish I had recognized the amount of opportunities and potential within the Macon area and stayed. Our city has a lot to offer, if you are willing to open your eyes to it.

What are you most excited about right now in our community?
I am really excited about the Clean Streets Matter initiative. I think that it is immensely important to take care of our city, so I love that there are steps being taken within the community to do so.

Your advice for women wanting to start their own business in Macon?
Use your connections. I am passionate about supporting small business, and I know that many other people are, too. Even if it is something as simple as sharing or liking your business’ page on social media, it makes a difference.

How do you define success?
Success to me is waking up every day and being genuinely happy with what I do.

I admire women who:Define their own success. I do not believe that you must go by what society deems as successful, but that you should instead do what fulfills you.

What was the best business advice you ever received?
No one manages your career but you. You might not be able to control everything that happens to you in your life, but it is 100 percent up to you what kind of attitude you have toward your career and every day that you are blessed with. Make the best of what you have so that you can make things better.
