Peanut farmer, humanitarian, Habitat homebuilder, President Jimmy Carter

We honor Plains, Georgia native, President Jimmy Carter’s life. He passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2024.

For over 35 years after his time in office, President Carter and First Lady Rosalynn Carter worked with Habitat for Humanity, an Americus, Georgia founded nonprofit organization that helps families build and improve places to call home. President Carter said,

“A Habitat project in a deprived community inspires other property owners in the area to improve other homes and the general environment in the larger neighborhood. Dwellers there get the Habitat spirit of volunteering and helping each other. The Habitat homeowner’s family members participate in work on their own homes and are then inspired to help others.”

His request in donating the land was to present President Carter with a copy of the deed. MAHFH covers Bibb and Jones Counties. Susan Wood was a board member and executive director of the affiliate.
