What is the mission of your business?
Our mission is to provide pet owners with a treat that is made using the best ingredients, free from additives and fillers. Good Boy Goodies are treats everyone can feel great about giving their furbabies!
Your advice for women wanting to start their own business in Macon?
Use all the great resources that Macon has to offer to do your research. Research your product, your competitors, your market and your customer. Be realistic: Make a list of both your strengths and weaknesses and look for partnerships that can assist you in the areas where you are weak. Then, with the knowledge you have gained, believe in yourself and just do it!
How do you define success?
For me the definition of success changes daily. Some days it is just getting out of the bed but other days it is seeing the pure joy of a dog owner and their pet as they encounter Good Boy Goodies delicious treats for the first time. They say that life is just a series of dreams realized and I feel that I am successfully realizing one of my biggest dreams at this moment in time.
What are you most excited about right now in our community?
Growth! Our community continues to see growth, whether we are talking about downtown or the many industries that are coming to our area, and to me that is truly exciting.
You might be surprised that:
As a kid living in the inner city of Detroit, my mom signed me up for track to keep me out of trouble and when I was 14 I beat Florence Griffith Joiner’s track record. Actually, I could have gone to the Olympic trials but I chose not to do so. Looking back, I don’t regret that decision because I love the path my life has taken me.
What is the most gratifying part of your job?
The dogs! Seriously, the dogs are my favorite! But it’s also gratifying to know that I’m providing a treat that is not only good to them but most importantly good for them.
What has been the most challenging part of being a female business owner?
Maintaining a guilt–free work–life balance. As a woman, this is always a challenge because you want to ensure that you don’t neglect one thing or the other.
I admire women who: Make the decision to do what they love and love what they do despite challenges or obstacles.
What was the best business advice you ever received?
It has been said that a smart person learns from their mistakes, but a wise person learns from the mistakes of others. So, the best advice I have received is not to reinvent the wheel, do your due diligence and be wise.
I hope more women will:
Believe in themselves and understand that they can make all their dreams come true with hard work and dedication.
How could women better support each other?
Comparison has been said to be the robber of joy, so I would say that women should be careful not to make comparison. Instead, we should be supportive of each other and look for every opportunity to bask in one another’s successes.
I wish I had known:
That even on my worst days I’m still enough. So, now I strive to be the very best version of myself – every single day.
